Our sponsors
We are very happy that Pierluigi Pugliese will this year again facilitate SwaCamp:

After many years in various roles in the mobile telecommunication business, he works as a consultant for software organisations and coach for individuals and teams, focusing on software development and software processes, helping them implementing sound and agile solutions. He is regularly speaking at international conferences on agile and Scrum, especially focusing on people aspects and team interactions. Within the community, Pierluigi is well known as facilitator for Open Space events.

About the conference
What is unconference / BarCamp?
SwaCamp is an unconference, or BarCamp, which is based on the Open Space format.
This involves, in particular, the lack of any fixed programs. With very few exceptions, we do not select speakers or topics up front. The core of the conference is that we provide a suitable framework for our participants to contribute content.
For many people, the best thing about conferences is the networking and spontaneous hands-on sessions that take place during coffee breaks. This is the main idea of unconferences - a conference that just feels like one big coffee break.
How does it work?
Every morning we meet up to discuss the agenda and suggest sessions for the current day. Those sessions can take various forms, some typical examples are:
-
Presentation
Whenever you are ready to give a presentation, we look forward to it! -
Hands-on sessions / workshops
A workshop is a nice way to get acquainted with some new technology. There are no time limits! -
A discussion
A discussion is often a good way to get started on a topic, especially if you value input from other participants. -
A question
“How can I …” ? “What is …” ? A conference provides the perfect setting to meet with and pick the brains of qualified experts. Thus it is the perfect opportunity to ask any question occupying your mind.
Who is SwaCamp for?
The event targets anybody involved in software projects, development, testing specifically interested in software architecture.
It does not matter how experienced you are or how long you have been dealing with software architecture and development. You only need to be interested in sharing experiences and talking about software architecture in general.
Who are we?
We are a group of enthusiastic software engineers with a strong passion for software architecture. We consider software architecture to be highly relevant. Thus we are looking for as many colleagues as possible to exchange experiences and help the community to improve as a whole.
We, as organizers, belong to various companies, namely TNG Technology Consulting, iteratec and Mercateo.
What do you pay money for?
We use the money to pay for food as well as to discourage last-minute no-shows.
Keynotes
Friday: A new way of mapping sociotechnical architectures
Sociotechnical architectures aim at the interaction between people and technology in software architectures. Domain-driven Design is a very popular approach to this way of thinking. Context Maps have been an integral part of Domain-driven Design for many years and they helped many organization in cartographing their application and organizational landscapes. This talk will build up on the ideas of context maps and will propose a new level for mapping sociotechnical architectures. This approach will show different layers / perspectives for looking at the architecture of (systems of) systems. In addition I will show which patterns fit into which layer and reuse some of the context maps patterns but I will also show new patterns, that have not been described in the classic Domain-driven Design books.
Michael Plöd is Principal Consultant at innoQ. His current topics of interest are Microservices, Domain-driven Design, polyglot persistences, alternatives to old style software architectures, Event Sourcing and presentation techniques for developers and architects.
Saturday: Beyond the hype: A practical look at models of self-organization
Self-organization has become one of the most popular buzz words in the business world. Many people talk about it, but when you ask for details, benefits and purpose, you often get vague answers or blank stares in return. What is the point of models of self-organization like Holacracy and Sociocracy, aside from name-dropping in meetings to sound smart and forward-thinking?
The idea of self-organized teams has been around for quite a while, and even the currently popular models of self-organization are a lot older than you might think. Why is it then that they have become so popular over the last few years? More and more companies attempt to implement agile work methods, to work more closely aligned with user needs and to drive their innovation efforts in general. At the same time, many organizations feel the new workflows clashing with their established structures and their work culture. Can these models of self-organization be a possible solution to this conflict? And if so, what might such a solution look like?
How can we look beyond the hype and the assorted myths about self-organization? My take is that we should forget about organizational charts for the moment and instead focus on more practical matters: Meeting formats and culture, responsibilities and decision making. This is where Holacracy and Sociocracy tackle the conflict of traditional hierarchy and self-organized, agile teams. I would like to share some thoughts and principles as well as my personal experience with self-organization with you, to facilitate discussion and the exchange of ideas.

By Suburban Train or Bus
Most “Deutsche Bahn” trains go to the main station. From there please take the S-Bahn towards Ostbahnhof, or the U4 / U5 direction Arabellapark / Neuperlach Süd. Get off at Munich Ostbahnhof and either walk for 13 minutes or take the subway line. Change to U1 / U2 / U7 direction Neuperlach Zentrum / Messestadt Ost and get off at Karl-Preis-Platz. From there it is a 6-minute walk to St.-Martin-Straße 114. Another option is the S3 from Ostbahnhof direction Taufkirchen. Please get off at the stop St.-Martin-Straße and walk for 9 minutes.
Even closer is the bus line 145 direction Fasangarten, also from the Ostbahnhof. Here is the exit on Anzinger Straße, walking time 3 minutes to St.-Martin-Straße 114.
By Car
Enter St.-Martin-Straße 114, 81669 into the navigation device. The fastest way via one of the motorways is the A94. There are few parking spaces in the area. Therefore we recommend you to travel by train. With a bit of luck, you can also find a parking lot on the St. Martin or Balanstraße on the edge.
Nearby is also a paid parking garage available. Drive over Balanstraße, turn right into St.-Martin-Straße and immediately before the next traffic light turn right again into the campus of Neue Balan. On the right is the entrance to the garage.
